The course

A well trapped Gene Hamm design from 1972 with no homes, condos, or backyards crowding the golf, less than half a mile from the ocean.

Azalea Sands mixes fairway and greenside bunkers throughout the round, but the design stays user friendly. Most greenside bunkers sit to the sides and back of the greens, leaving the front open for bump and run approaches. Greens are mostly large, so putting is the key to scoring. The pine berms bordering the fairways are clear of underbrush, which means recovery shots to the fairway or green usually stay open. Just steer clear of the large pampas grass plants dotting the fairways, because a ball in one of those is not coming out cleanly.

The proximity to the ocean brings a good breeze for much of the round, adding a true beach course feel. The par 72 plays 6,444 yards from the championship tees, 6,016 from the men's, and 4,615 from the ladies', on Bermuda greens. A friendly staff and helpful rangers round out a course set up to challenge every skill level, and it has been a longtime staff favorite beach style course for over 25 years.

Great place, awesome staff, and fun course

Duane
★★★★

Open course with lot of water hazards on the back nine. Lots of fun just have to keep it straight.

Finn
★★★★

Nice course. Some greens not in good shape

Spencer
★★★

over sanded greens and a serious lack of watering, but it's been dry there for months.

David

It was difficult to find grass on this course. And the staff/starters were way too rude for this much of a dog track.

Massato

Greens and fairways in terrible shape

Despite not being overseeded, greens rolled true and EXTREMELY fast. Overall the rest of the course was in fine condition as well

Decent condition overall, very friendly staff.

Course was in ok condition. Greens were hard and not much actual grass on the greens. Played with nice people which made the experience better.

The staff was rude and seemed to be bothered that we even showed up. They could not remember a single name. The staff put a two some in front of us that played from the blue tees and kept duffing the ball. They spent more time looking for their ball in the water and rough. Play was so slow that it took an hour and half for the first 3 holes. We left after that. Will not be back.

Not a bad course (keep in mind that we are 'beginner' level players). It was loud at times when certain holes were close to the road.

Liz

Didn't like this course at all. When I come back down it's on my list of Do Not Play
