The course
Open since 1968, Beachwood is a classic beach style course sitting less than half a mile from the ocean, which means a steady breeze most of the year.
This Gene Hamm design features tall pines, minimal rough, large Bermuda greens, and wide fairways, which makes it an excellent first round of a Myrtle Beach trip while you adjust to coastal conditions. The par 72 layout measures 6,844 yards from the championship tees, 6,347 from the men's, and 4,947 from the ladies'.
The signature hole is the par 3 18th, playing 239 yards from the championship tees over a lake. Every tee box on that hole points directly east into the ocean breeze, so club selection matters and the finishing hole makes a natural spot to press the bet.

★★★Had we played this first, the rating might have been a 4, but playing Myrtlewood Pine Hills first, there was no comparison. Good course but not in as good a shape.
