The course
Water on 15 of 18 holes and more than 100 sand traps make River Club one of the south end's most demanding tests. The name is a fair warning.
Tom Jackson designed this semiprivate, resort style par 72 in 1985, and he was not shy with the hazards. Water comes into play on 15 of the 18 holes, and over 100 bunkers fill in the gaps. Long hitters will find some room off the tee, but the approach shots need to be on the money all day.
The finishing hole is the payoff. The par 5 18th bends around a horseshoe shape and offers a genuine risk and reward decision, with an eagle chance for anyone willing to carry the water twice. The course plays 6677 yards from the championship tees at a 135 slope, 6240 from the members tees, and 5084 for the ladies.

★★★★Challenging course in excellent condition. Friendly staff.
★★★★★Nicest of the 3 courses played.
★★★★Very playable ..folks in the restaurant clubhouse were awesome
★★★★Good course. Greens were a bit slow and unpredictable but loved the layout of the course.
★★★★★Always enjoy playing this course.
★★★River club was in great shape, and the greens are hard and fast, creating great challenge for the group. It didn't quite live up to the hype of other pawley's island courses though (Caledonia, Heritage).
