The course
Wide fairways, big mounding, and elevated greens make the Jones Course one of Rees Jones' better designs and a short game examination from start to finish.
The Jones Course at Sea Trail opened in 1990 and carries the classic Rees Jones look with plenty of mounding and large waste bunkers. The traditional par 72 measures 6,711 yards from the championship tees with a 73.0 rating and 133 slope, 6,319 from the men's tees, and 4,946 for ladies. Fairways are wide and inviting, so most players can keep the driver in play all day.
The test comes at the greens. The putting surfaces are average to large and undulating, and many are elevated with collection areas below, which means chipping around the greens and blasting out of bunkers are at a premium. Sharpen your wedges before this one. It is a fair, well designed round that fits neatly into any Sea Trail package.
