The course
The Avocet opened in the fall of 1993 and was named one of The Top 10 Best New Resort Courses in America by Golf Digest for 1994. Every hole is built to be memorable, fair and fun.
Wild Wing introduced the Avocet as a signature course from Larry Nelson, winner of two PGA Championships and the 1983 US Open, working with designer Jeff Brauer. Each hole is memorable for its enjoyment, aesthetics and playability, and all 18 are challenging but fair tests of skill. Creative contouring produces elevated tees and greens, double fairways, grass bunkers and even a double green shared by two holes.
Water plays a strategic role throughout the design, and because the par 5s and par 3s face different points of the compass, the prevailing winds of each season come into play. Multiple tees on every hole keep the challenge fresh round after round. From the championship markers the par 72 plays 7127 yards with a 74.8 rating and 135 slope, with the men's tees at 6658 yards and the ladies' tees at 4310 yards.
