The course
The Wizard is unlike anything else in Myrtle Beach, right down to the ruined castle clubhouse overlooking a 100 acre lake. Dan Maples moved 800,000 cubic yards of dirt to create this dramatic links style layout.
Building The Wizard meant moving 800,000 cubic yards of earth, constructing a destroyed castle as the clubhouse on a 100 acre lake, planting 800 species of grasses and plants, and shaping mounds that rise as high as 45 feet above the fairways. The result is a uniquely different golf course. Superb, fast bent grass greens keep the pressure on all day, and the three finishing holes play over and around the big lake.
Dan Maples completed the course in 1996. The championship tees measure 6721 yards with a 71.7 rating and 129 slope, the men's tees play 6138 yards at 69.1 and 121, and the ladies' tees measure 4972 yards at 71.2 and 121. It is a memorable addition to any Myrtle Beach package.
