Almost every group that calls us about a Myrtle Beach golf package asks the same question in the first two minutes. Four days on the Grand Strand, eight guys, how many rounds do we play? The honest answer is that the number people book first is usually one more than the number they enjoy, and the difference shows up on the last afternoon when half the group is quietly hoping for rain.
There is no single right answer, but there is a right answer for your group. It depends on age, on how much of the trip is golf and how much is everything else, and on whether you are playing 36 in a day because you want to or because the package looked like better value that way.
The three shapes a four day trip takes
Nearly every four day golf package we build falls into one of three patterns.
- Three rounds. Arrive, play three straight mornings, drive home after the last round or the next morning. One clear day for travel, one relaxed evening, no early alarm on day one.
- Four rounds. A round on every full day, including arrival day if the drive is short. This is the most common golf package we book and the one most groups are actually built for.
- Five or six rounds. Four days with one or two afternoon replays stacked on top. Genuinely great for a group in their thirties and forties who came here to play golf and nothing else.
Match the number to the group, not the calendar
Age is the honest variable nobody wants to raise on the group chat. A group averaging 60 years old will play three excellent rounds and one tired one. The same four days at 35 will absorb five without complaint. If your group spans both, book for the older half and let the younger half add a replay when they feel like it. Replays are far easier to add on the day than a fourth round is to cancel.
What matters more than most people expect is how far apart the courses sit. Playing Pawleys Island in the morning and the north end in the afternoon means an hour in the car between rounds. Keeping a 36 hole day inside one part of the Strand, or better still at one facility with a replay rate, is what makes the second round feel like golf rather than a commute.
What a fourth round actually costs you
The extra green fee is the small part. The real cost is the evening. Groups that play four mornings still get four dinners, four nights out and time on the beach. Groups that play six rounds in four days get two dinners they remember and a lot of sitting in the car. If the point of the trip is the group and not the scorecard, that trade is worth thinking about before anyone books.
There is also weather to leave room for. Afternoon thunderstorms in July and cold fronts in February will move a tee time sooner or later. A schedule with a spare afternoon in it absorbs that easily. A schedule with 36 holes every day has nowhere to put a washed out round, and the courses are under no obligation to fit it back in.
How the number changes the package
Round count is the first thing that shapes a golf package, because it decides which courses you can reach and which nights make sense to stay where. Three rounds gives you room to play three of the best courses on the Strand without worrying about pace. Six rounds usually means a mix, with the marquee names in the mornings and quieter courses in the afternoons, because nobody wants a premium tee time for a round they are half asleep for.
It also changes where you stay. A group playing the south end most days is better off in Pawleys Island or Murrells Inlet than in a condo 40 minutes north, no matter how good the nightly rate looks. For a first trip with a mixed age group, book four rounds over four days, all morning tee times, and leave the last afternoon open. If the group wants more golf by day two, add a replay then. That single decision is often the difference between a group that talks about coming back and a group that finishes the trip relieved it is over.
