In the fall of 1993, Wild Wing introduced the Avocet. Designed as a signature course by Larry Nelson, two-time PGA Champion and 1983 US Open Winner, and Jeff Brauer, the Avocet is a course where each hole is memorable for its enjoyment, aesthetics and playability. All 18 holes are challenging, but fair tests of a player’s skills. Creative contouring presents elevated tees and greens, double fairways, grass bunkers and even a double green two holes. Water plays a strategic role in the design of the Avocet and with all Par 5’s and Par 3’s orienting to different points on the compass, each season’s prevailing winds come into play. Multiple tees on each hole offer endless and changing challenges. The Avocet was recognized by Golf Digest as one of “The Top 10 Best New Resort Courses in America,” for 1994.

Love, Love, LOVE this place. We are trying to get to as many as possible however that may take time given the fact we will be playing this one enough to become family. Lol. Green were flawless, fairways stunning and the staff was top notch.

The overall course and layout was good. It is a challenging course. I know last month is the typical green aeriation timeframe for many golf courses. We were told that the greens were still healing and a little bumpy and that if we weren’t satisfied after two holes, we could get a rain check. The greens were very bumpy, but had huge bare spots on 90% of them. The greens were in really bad condition which cost extra putts. Without knowing the next time i would be back in the Myrtle Beach area. I preferred to play the golf then take the rain check but the greens were disappointing.
